techtuate vs. CamScanner
CamScanner is the app most people mean when they say "scan it with your phone", and it is genuinely capable: multi-page documents, OCR, cloud sync across devices. But it is an app you install, it wants an account, and on the free tier it stamps a watermark on what you export. techtuate's Photo to Scan is a single web page: open it, drop in a photo you already took, and it finds the page, flattens the perspective, fills in the fingers holding it, and gives you a PNG, JPG or PDF. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for, and the photo never leaves your device.

What CamScanner is good at
- Multi-page documents. Shoot a stack of pages and get one PDF, reordered and named. techtuate does a single page per export.
- OCR and text export. It reads the text on the page so you can search or copy it. techtuate does not do OCR at all.
- Sync and sharing. Scans land in your CamScanner account and follow you to another phone or the desktop app.
- Capture-time guidance. The camera view helps you frame the page and can auto-shoot when it is steady.
Where the two differ
- No install, no account. techtuate runs in whatever browser you already have, on a phone or a laptop. CamScanner is an app on the App Store or Play Store and asks you to sign up.
- No watermark. CamScanner's free tier marks exported pages, and removing that is what the subscription is for - the App Store listing shows in-app purchases at around $9.99 a month and $49.99 to $69.99 a year (checked September 2026). techtuate's export is clean, and free.
- The photo stays on your device. techtuate does the edge detection, flattening and cleanup in the browser tab, so a passport page or a payslip is never uploaded. CamScanner's model is built around storing your scans in its cloud.
- No ads. techtuate shows none.
- Finger removal. techtuate looks for fingers holding the page down and fills them in with the surrounding paper, and gives you a brush for anything it misses. That is the part hand-held photos usually ruin.
- Scope, honestly. techtuate is one page in, one page out: no multi-page PDFs, no batch, no OCR, no cloud library. If you need those, CamScanner is the better fit.
When to use which
Reach for CamScanner when scanning is a routine part of your week, you need multi-page files, searchable text, or your scans available on every device, and a subscription is worth it to you.
Reach for techtuate's Photo to Scan when you already have the photo, you want one flat, clean, watermark-free page out of it in the next thirty seconds, and you would rather the document not be uploaded anywhere.
